Watercolour Poems July Art Show

Watercolour allows me to be in the moment , right now , not tomorrow or the next day when that feeling and being is something else. It is not about mastering the paint but allowing the paint to show the way and then to respond naturally with whatever is happening in that moment within me. It is immediate and raw, nothing is planned or known just a moment unfolding which is how my mind works.

Work on Cotton Rag paper

The paper changes the feeling of the work. It is not about one paper being better than another regardless of its perceived quality. It is the quality of how the paper reacts to media that I am interested in, and how it leaves its impression. Cotton rag is a greedy paper manifesting an ethereal feeling ; they feel like memories faded away or not quite formed.

Mixed Media Paper

I was searching for cold press paper but I remembered that I had a bundle of Canson Mixed Media which I loved using for Ink Drawing. It allows me to be really expressive as it holds the water very differently than the other two papers. As I mostly will draw with the watercolour paint tube the line keeps itself more as it doesn’t soak into the paper the same. This creates more definitive expressions of shapes and forms contained within me but still retains something other.
